Building better content brick by brick: using structured content and content models to create once, publish everywhere

Dana Rock

Director of Content and Experience Design, Pickle Jar Communications

Imagine your content as a set of Lego bricks, each piece carefully designed to fit together. Structured content is like having a blueprint for your Lego creation, ensuring that every piece has a specific purpose and place. And having a COPE (‘create once, publish everywhere’) strategy is like having the ability to use those Lego bricks to build multiple creations without starting from scratch each time. Sounds good?

In this session, we will explore how structured content and content models can help you streamline your content creation process, improve consistency across platforms, and maximise the impact of your efforts.

You will gain an insight into the tools and processes you need to bring a structured approach to your content. Moving away from the page as the basic unit of content, we will walk through the process you need to build a smarter way of working. We will explore domain mapping, defining your content elements, collaborating with stakeholders to model your content and how to adapt your processes and workflows to put ‘create once, publish everywhere’ into practice in your organisation.

Key takeaways

  • How to streamline your content operations by adopting a smarter ‘create once, publish everywhere’ approach

  • How structured content works

  • How to bring these more efficient, collaborative practices to life in your organisation
