In 2022, the University of Chichester released an award-winning podcast series all about minority groups.
The students were encouraged to be as honest as possible, even if their experience was negative. This was a risky move as universities only share positive experiences but we were confident that the honest conversations needed to happen to aid DEI student recruitment.
The reaction of the series was far greater than we anticipated.
Diversity in content used to be something we struggled with, we previously shared these topics with caution thinking they might hinder our chances of recruiting more however this podcast series did the opposite.
The session will go through the process of how the series was made, the impact the series had beyond digital engagement and the increase of diverse students wanting to create content with us - proving why sharing negative experiences can be a positive thing for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Takeaways:
How sharing honest/negative student experiences can have a positive impact on DEI student recruitment
Creating powerful DEI content will encourage more DEI students to work with you
Engaging niche audiences can still make a huge impact.
